Expandable Adds On-Demand Version of its ERP Suite

March 12, 2007 - Santa Clara, CA - Expandable Software, Inc. announced today the addition of Expandable On Demand, a software-as-a-service version of its ERP software suite for growing manufacturers. “With Expandable On Demand, we now offer a complete ERP suite, including integrated manufacturing and accounting, in both on-demand and on-site versions,” said Expandable VP, Gerald Lass.

“Expandable On Demand provides a strategic option for growing companies who want to integrate their business with ERP,” continued Lass. “The on-demand version of Expandable provides all the manufacturing capability of our on-site product, without the capital investment in software, hardware and implementation.

“The framework of the Expandable system makes it ideal for the software-as-a-service model,” said chief architect, Marshall E. Guile III. “The system is a complete, homogenous product built entirely in-house by Expandable software engineers. Many of our competitors have assembled their offerings by acquiring a variety of different products and combining them to create an amalgam of disparate modules. The fact that our product is uniform across all components enables a reliable and secure on-demand deployment.”

What sets Expandable apart from other on-demand enterprise packages is the availability of the critical MRP, scheduling and engineering components necessary to run a complex manufacturing operation. “Our core product strength has always been the capability to handle the more difficult elements of the manufacturing environment, like time-phased procurement, product costing and bills of materials management,” said Guile. “There are plenty of accounting packages out there that provide rudimentary manufacturing tools as an afterthought, but we’re unique in the fact that we set out from the beginning to provide integrated accounting and manufacturing to enable the high level of control that the Expandable system provides.”

“The software-as-a-service model provides many clear benefits to our target customers,” added Guile. “A significant portion of our customers are venture-funded startups and emerging manufacturers who expect to grow exponentially in the short term. Typically, growing companies identify the need for enterprise-level manufacturing software early in their growth cycle, but tend to delay capitalizing the cost of software and implementation until sales and production levels reach a critical mass. With Expandable On Demand, emerging manufacturers can implement our ERP system early in their growth cycle, which offers them a significant advantage.”

“Over the years we’ve recognized the trend in our venture-funded startup customers to move away from establishing in-house manufacturing operations,” continued Guile. “The majority of our high-tech electronics startups outsource factors of their production to contract manufacturers or off-shore locations. They like Expandable because it provides the manufacturing functionality they need to manage product revisions and track orders and jobs through their distributed supply chains. The on-demand version of Expandable fits well with their strategy because the system is accessible from anywhere with only a common web browser, so supply chain partners can log in to update orders, procure materials and verify schedules.”

“We don’t expect that Expandable On Demand will displace the on-site version of Expandable,” said Jerry Lass. “There will always be strong demand for the traditional on-site version of our product because of the customizability and higher long-term return of on-site deployments. We believe Expandable On Demand is a good fit for companies who prefer to expense rather than capitalize their ERP investment, and for distributed companies who need to access their ERP system from satellite locations and from supply chain partner sites.”
